my best resolutions
“Being sensible that I am unable to do any thing without God’s help, I do humbly entreat him, by his grace, to enable me to keep these Resolutions, so far as they are agreeable to his will, for Christ’s sake..."
my best resolutionsmy best resolutions, apart from You are all for naught
bound by sin, I try and try, but fail and fail to do that which I oughtmy best resolutions, penned with good intent, are dead letters indeed
unless Your Spirit's living fire falls, comes to inflame and intercedemy best resolutions to You, my heavenly King, to give all, to be well pleasing
are met with the reminder that nothing good at all dwells within memy best resolutions, my ambitions holy though they be
bring You no glory, bear no lasting fruit, lest I abide in Theemy best resolutions, my greatest, highest, deepest sincerity,
all burn, bow and crumble at the shining cross of Calvarymy best resolution is to fully concede
I can do absolutely nothing apart from Theemy best resolution therefore can only be
that I be a beggar set before Theemy best resolution on this first day of this New Year
is to ask You condescend to me and bend Your earmy best resolution is to ask for crumbs, boldly pleading
at Your throne of grace and mercy with importunitymy best resolution must be wholly divine
o, come holy Dove, to baptize and to refinemy best resolution is to draw nearer to Your chest
marveling You alone chose me and drew me here to be blestmy best resolution is to say I am nothing, insufficient, poor, naked, weak
o, bend my stiff neck, break my proud heart, so I fall prostrate at Your feetmy best resolution is to see I am inglorious, a hypocrite, two-faced,
so I might gaze upon Your beauty, be transformed by Your glory and Your gracemy best resolution is to see my best efforts fleeting, tainted with sin's stain
and seek the Lamb who is spotless, never changes and will always remainmy best resolutions each and every one will wither, faint and perish
Living Water, flow, revive me, make me bud, blossom and flourishmy best resolution, my Lord, though Thy servant will labor, 'tis true,
is to say I will labor harder, but only labor through grace bestowed by Youmy best resolution cannot come from within, it is not mine own
but only flows from above, from the wellspring of Thy pure and holy thronemy best resolution is to love You who loved me first
but such love comes only to me through Christ who became a cursemy best resolution, ah, Lord, You know me, at best a sinner perpetual
I know Your grace for me, like rocky Peter, must be wholly effectualmy best resolution is to know I and all my resolutions are wholly nothing
for 'tis then I not only profess You with my lips but truly make You my everythingmy best resolution is to become like a child, to know by grace alone I embrace
nothing more precious than You, my Friend, by Your cleansing blood and perfect righteousness

How fully satisfying are resolutions based upon His abilities, not ours - trusting only in Him for all that we would "do."
Such resolutions aim to glorify God to whom belongs all glory, honor, and praise!
Hi Karen, I saw this thoughtful post as a reality check. lol I have always liked setting 'goals.' This was more true during my career days. I read lots of books on the subject both Christians and Secular. My memory is a little weak here, but I did try to have a Biblical basis for those goals. I was not too much as to New Year Resolutions. The few I tried were broken within a few days. That is my recollection.
I liked the last one---become like a child in my relationship to the Father. I think that most New Year Resolutions are OK, but I don't think those who write a NY Resolution have God in mind. I don't know, but I think it is 'self-improvement.' That is always shaky.

@quest4god@revelife - Amen. Yes, fully satisfying. It's a real blessedness for sure to have God's grace to do that.
@ANVRSADDAY - Nothing wrong w/ goals, so long as they're God-honoring. We need to be cautious that we're wholly dependent on God's strength to accomplish them and not making goals only so we can say, "Look at me! Look what I've done!"
I so agree w/ your comment re: self-improvement. Jesus continues to commend the poor and needy and tells us we must become like children; in that way we are totally dependent on Him and He gets all the praise, honor and glory for whatever good we do.
