forgiveness

  • Hear this, all ye people; give ear! ... He shall save His people from their sins!

    Psalm 49:1  Hear this, all ye people; give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world: 2  Both low and high, rich and poor, together. 3  My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding. 4  I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp. 5  Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, when the iniquity of my heels shall compass me about?

    6  They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches; 7  None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him: 8  (For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever:) 9  That he should still live for ever, and not see corruption. 10  For he seeth that wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others. 11  Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names. 12  Nevertheless man being in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish. 13  This their way is their folly: yet their posterity approve their sayings. Selah.

    14  Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling. 15  But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me. Selah.

    Psalm 130:1  Out of the depths have I cried unto thee, O LORD. 2  Lord, hear my voice: let thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications. 3  If thou, LORD, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand? 4  But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared. 5  I wait for the LORD, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope. 6  My soul waiteth for the Lord more than they that watch for the morning: I say, more than they that watch for the morning. 7  Let Israel hope in the LORD: for with the LORD there is mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption. 8  And he shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities.

    Hear this, all ye people; give ear!

    And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS:
    for He shall save his people from their sins.
    (Matthew 1:21)

    Under God's wrath and condemnation
    Having no light or consolation

    Vexed by sin's gloominess
    Hopeless, lost and powerless

    Out of Sheol's deepest depths
    We cried out to highest heav'n

    Be gracious, send our Ransom
    Send deliverance! O send Him!

    Adam and Eve sewed leaves together
    But no man his own sins can cover

    Neither can he redeem another
    No sinner payment for his brother

    No ordinary man could pay the price
    But the God-man could – Jesus Christ!

    Hear this, all ye people; give ear!

    And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS:
    for he shall save his people from their sins.

    In little town a Savior born
    Behold He comes: Christ the Lord!

    Man's best works cannot excel
    The perfect life of Immanuel

    Man's best works cannot excel
    God bearing sin in Immanuel

    Put no trust in thine own works
    Saving grace cannot be earned

    A vain oblation is earthly penance
    The temple veil has been fully rent

    Not by our might, nor strength, nor riches
    But by Christ – God's wisdom and righteousness

    The redemption of God in lowly manger laid
    Crucified in weakness, God's glory displayed

    Be not brutish, for Christ do not show contempt
    God's holy propitiation for sinners sent

    Hear this, all ye people; give ear!

    And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS:
    for he shall save his people from their sins.

    Without His blood shed, no remission
    No peace or joy or sins forgiven

    God and sinners stood at a distance
    Behold! the Lamb of God has been sent!

    Messiah, anointed Deliverer
    A body prepared, an opened ear

    The Son of God into the world came
    To take the sin of the world away

    No earthly scheme or clever device
    Can match Christ's sufficient sacrifice

    Cast off your fleshly confidence
    Jettison all your fatal boasts

    Stumble not over the Cornerstone
    For His people's sins He did atone

    Hear this, all ye people; give ear!

    And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS:
    for He shall save his people from their sins.

    With Christ there is forgiveness
    O, bless Him, thou who art blessed

    Saving His people from their sins
    JESUS! – perfect Righteousness!

    Tremble and be astonished!
    Forgiveness of our trespasses!

    Embrace the joy of love divine
    Eat His bread, drink His wine

    From the stump of Jesse, a shoot
    Out of dry ground came a root

    For our iniquities He was slain
    On Him all our sin was laid

    From all our sins JESUS came to save
    Under heaven, there is no other name

    For our transgressions wounded
    The branch of the LORD - beauty!

    Hear this, all ye people; give ear!

    And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS:
    for he shall save his people from their sins.

    Israel's strong consolation
    In Him there is no condemnation

    Enter His courts with praises!
    Bless Him! Forget not His benefits!

    In the Beloved we are blessed!
    According to God's riches!

    Chosen for His purpose
    A glorious inheritance!

    O! Be astonished! Be astonished!
    Rejoice in Christ JESUS!

    Linger not at your self-righteousness
    Mourn you sinners, find Sabbath rest

    Cleanse yourself from lethal foolishness
    Open to your Bridegroom and be blessed

    Hear this, all ye people; give ear!

    And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS:
    for he shall save his people from their sins.

    Sinner! Be astonished!
    God's salvation lavished!

    Imputed righteousness
    For our bloodguiltiness

    Sinner! Be astonished!
    God's salvation lavished!

    Infused righteousness
    For our impotence

    Shepherd spanned the great gulf fixed
    Broke down the partition wall betwixt

    Author of eternal salvation
    Pronounced the just decree, "It is finished!"

    By the sacrifice of Himself put away sin
    Enmity killed so His lambs might delight in Him

    Hear this, all ye people; give ear!

    And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS:
    for He shall save his people from their sins.

    The Redeemer of our fallen race
    Sovereign mercies stream to the depraved

    Quickening the dead from their graves
    From God's wrath JESUS alone saves

    The Word of life made manifest
    In Him mercy and truth caressed

    His Father He made manifest
    Entrance into joyful fellowship

    Glory! Full of truth and grace
    Worship! Fall down on your face

    With me, do you know Him as JESUS?
    All other saviors have you relinquished?

    Should your heart not burn with zeal and fire?
    Should JESUS not be your soul's desire?

    Hear this, all ye people; give ear!

    And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS:
    for He shall save his people from their sins.

    John 3:16  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17  For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

    18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

  • Christ's Advent Hymn ~ "Trinity's Counsel, Divine Design"

    Hebrews 10:1  For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect. 2  For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins. 3  But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year. 4  For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins. 5  Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me: 6  In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure. 7  Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.

    Christ's Advent Hymn
    "Trinity's Counsel, Divine Design"

    Sacrifices Thou didst not require
    In burnt off'rings Thou took no pleasure

    In the scroll, of Me it was written
    The Lamb slain before world's foundation

    Trinity's counsel, divine design
    Incarnate God appointed to die

    Wise men carried a gift of myrrh
    A herald of death's suffering

    To drink the cup, tasting death for everyone
    On the cross to cry, "It is finished! 'Tis done!"

    For Me a body Thou hast prepared
    The God-man, the only Mediator

    Bowed to take a servant's form
    In likeness of men to be born

    By My poverty, worms made rich
    To the heavenlies the poor lifted

    In My people I joy and pleasure
    Adorn the humble with salvation

    My life an atoning sacrifice
    To deliver sinners from death's vise

    To bestow an eternal inheritance
    Through the new and living covenant

    The perfect tent, the great high priest
    From sin's curse to bring release

    All who drink My blood and eat My flesh
    Are cover'd with My robe of righteousness

    Your will alone is My heart's desire
    The incarnate God born to expire

    Though a Son, to learn obedience
    On the cross to become a curse

    Psalm 40:6  Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears hast thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required. 7  Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me, 8  I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.

    John 12:23  And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified. 24  Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. 25  He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. 26  If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.

    John 12:27  Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour. 28  Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again. 29  The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it thundered: others said, An angel spake to him. 30  Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes. 31  Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out. 32  And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me. 33  This he said, signifying what death he should die.

    Philippians 2:3  Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. 4  Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. 5  Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6  Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7  But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8  And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

    Hebrews 4:12  For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. 13  And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

    Luke 2:25  Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. 26  And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord's Christ. 27  And he came in the Spirit into the temple, and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the Law, 28  he took him up in his arms and blessed God and said,

    29  “Lord, now you are letting your servant depart in peace,

    Isaiah 40
    1  Comfort, comfort my people, says your God.
    2  Speak tenderly to Jerusalem,
    and cry to her
    that her warfare is ended,
    that her iniquity is pardoned,
    that she has received from the LORD's hand
    double for all her sins.
    3  A voice cries:
    “In the wilderness prepare the way of the LORD;
    make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
    4  Every valley shall be lifted up,
    and every mountain and hill be made low;
    the uneven ground shall become level,
    and the rough places a plain.
    5  And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed,
    and all flesh shall see it together,
    for the mouth of the LORD has spoken.”

    Isaiah 9:1  But there will be no gloom for her who was in anguish. In the former time he brought into contempt the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the latter time he has made glorious the way of the sea, the land beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations.

    2  The people who walked in darkness
    have seen a great light;
    those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness,
    on them has light shined.
    3  You have multiplied the nation;
    you have increased its joy;
    they rejoice before you
    as with joy at the harvest,
    as they are glad when they divide the spoil.
    4  For the yoke of his burden,
    and the staff for his shoulder,
    the rod of his oppressor,
    you have broken as on the day of Midian.
    5  For every boot of the tramping warrior in battle tumult
    and every garment rolled in blood
    will be burned as fuel for the fire.
    6  For to us a child is born,
    to us a son is given;
    and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
    and his name shall be called
    Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
    7  Of the increase of his government and of peace
    there will be no end,
    on the throne of David and over his kingdom,
    to establish it and to uphold it
    with justice and with righteousness
    from this time forth and forevermore.
    The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this.

    Luke 4
    16  And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. And as was his custom, he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and he stood up to read. 17  And the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written,

    18  “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
    because he has anointed me
    to proclaim good news to the poor.
    He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives
    and recovering of sight to the blind,
    to set at liberty those who are oppressed,
    19  to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.”

    I Timothy 2:5  For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6  who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time.

    Galatians 3:23  Now before faith came, we were held captive under the law, imprisoned until the coming faith would be revealed. 24  So then, the law was our guardian until Christ came, in order that we might be justified by faith. 25  But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian, 26  for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith. 27  For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28  There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29  And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's offspring, heirs according to promise.

    II Thessalonians 2:16  Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace, 17  comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word.

    Have you come to know Israel's Consolation, Jesus Christ, as YOUR consolation?

    II Corinthians 6:1  Working together with him, then, we appeal to you not to receive the grace of God in vain. 2  For he says,

    “In a favorable time I listened to you,
    and in a day of salvation I have helped you.”

    Behold, now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation.

    Isaiah 49
    8  Thus says the LORD:
    “In a time of favor I have answered you;
    in a day of salvation I have helped you;
    I will keep you and give you
    as a covenant to the people,
    to establish the land,
    to apportion the desolate heritages,
    9  saying to the prisoners, ‘Come out,’
    to those who are in darkness, ‘Appear.’
    They shall feed along the ways;
    on all bare heights shall be their pasture;
    10  they shall not hunger or thirst,
    neither scorching wind nor sun shall strike them,
    for he who has pity on them will lead them,
    and by springs of water will guide them.
    11  And I will make all my mountains a road,
    and my highways shall be raised up.
    12  Behold, these shall come from afar,
    and behold, these from the north and from the west,
    and these from the land of Syene.”
    13  Sing for joy, O heavens, and exult, O earth;
    break forth, O mountains, into singing!
    for the LORD has comforted his people
    and will have compassion on his afflicted.

    Have you come to know the JOY of Israel's Consolation –do you joy in Jesus Christ to the glory of God?

    Where do you seek consolation, comfort and joy?

    If you are a Christian and you continue to seek consolation, comfort and joy apart from Jesus Christ, not only are you robbing yourself as you settle for infinitely less than God can provide for you, but you are also robbing God of the glory due His Name!

    Should not a people seek consolation, comfort and joy in their God?

    Isaiah 61
    1  The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me;
    because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek;
    he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
    to proclaim liberty to the captives,
    and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
    2  To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD,
    and the day of vengeance of our God;
    to comfort all that mourn;
    3  To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion,
    to give unto them beauty for ashes,
    the oil of joy for mourning,
    the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
    that they might be called trees of righteousness,
    the planting of the LORD,
    that he might be glorified.

    ... that HE might be glorified!

    Here is love, vast as the ocean,
    Lovingkindness as the flood,
    When the Prince of Life, our Ransom,
    Shed for us His precious blood.
    Who His love will not remember?
    Who can cease to sing His praise?
    He can never be forgotten,
    Throughout Heav’n’s eternal days.

     (from "Here Is Love," verse 1 by William Rees)

    ... that HE might be glorified!

    Q. 1. What is the chief end of man?

    A. Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever.

Christian hedonist in training. Pressing on to know more and more of the joy of the LORD. Pleading with God to rend the heavens and revive and refresh my own soul, as well as His Church, to His praise, honor and glory.

Thank God. He can make men and women in middle life sing again with a joy that has been chastened by a memory of their past failures. ~ Alan Redpath
