  • bitter for sweet ... (What did you expect, when the goblet met your lips?)

    Galatians 6:7  Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. 8  For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.

    bitter for sweet ...
    (What did you expect, when the goblet met your lips?
    )

    bitter for sweet
    darkness for light

    lies for truth
    strange for fresh

    What did you expect,
    when the goblet met your lips?

    What did you expect,
    when you lingered in the night?

    sorrow for gladness
    fleshly for Spirit

    unsavory for pleasant
    fleeting for imperishable

    What did you expect,
    when the goblet met your lips?

    What did you expect,
    when you lingered in the night?

    creation for Creator
    vile for sanctified

    wickedness for purity
    death for eternal life

    What did you expect,
    when the goblet met your lips?

    What did you expect,
    when you lingered in the night?

    harlotries multiplied,
    insatiable, you groan unsatisfied

    can ephemeral dainties
    compare to the Beloved's embrace?

    What do you expect,
    as the goblet meets your lips?

    What do you expect,
    as you linger in the night?

    What do you expect,
    fleshly sup ~ deadly exchange!

    Proverbs 23
    29  Who has woe? Who has sorrow?
    Who has strife? Who has complaining?
    Who has wounds without cause?
    Who has redness of eyes?
    30  Those who tarry long over wine;
    those who go to try mixed wine.
    31  Do not look at wine when it is red,
    when it sparkles in the cup
    and goes down smoothly.
    32  In the end it bites like a serpent
    and stings like an adder.
    33  Your eyes will see strange things,
    and your heart utter perverse things.
    34  You will be like one who lies down in the midst of the sea,
    like one who lies on the top of a mast.
    35  “They struck me,” you will say, “but I was not hurt;
    they beat me, but I did not feel it.
    When shall I awake?
    I must have another drink.”

    Ezekiel 16:28-30 (NKJV)
    "You also played the harlot with the Assyrians,
    because you were insatiable;
    indeed you played the harlot with them
    and still were not satisfied.
    Moreover you multiplied you acts of harlotry as far as the land of the trader, Chaldea;
    and even then you were not satisfied."
    "How degenerate is your heart!"
    says the LORD GOD,
    "seeing you do all these things, the deeds of a brazen harlot."

    Jeremiah 4:18
    Your ways and your deeds
    have brought this upon you.
    This is your doom, and it is bitter;
    it has reached your very heart.

    Romans 1:18  For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. 19  For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20  For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. 21  For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22  Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23  and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.

    24  Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, 25  because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.

    26  For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; 27  and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.

    28  And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done. 29  They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips, 30  slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, 31  foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 32  Though they know God's decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.

    John 4:7  There came a woman of Samaria to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give me a drink.” 8  (For his disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.) 9  The Samaritan woman said to him, “How is it that you, a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a woman of Samaria?” (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.) 10  Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.” 11  The woman said to him, “Sir, you have nothing to draw water with, and the well is deep. Where do you get that living water? 12  Are you greater than our father Jacob? He gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and his livestock.” 13  Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, 14  but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty forever. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” 15  The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water, so that I will not be thirsty or have to come here to draw water.”

    John 10:10
    "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly."

    What are you sowing?
    What are you drinking?
    What are you eating?
    Where are you lingering?

    Proverbs 23:1-3
    When you sit down to eat with a ruler,
    observe carefully what is before you,
    and put a knife to your throat
    if you are given to appetite.
    Do not desire his delicacies,
    for they are deceptive food.

    Psalm 141:1-3 (KJV)
    LORD, I cry unto thee: make haste unto me; give ear unto my voice, when I cry unto thee.
    Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
    Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.
    Incline not my heart to any evil thing, to practise wicked works with men that work iniquity:
    and let me not eat of their dainties.

  • A very good post and an apt warning.   It does no good to sit in judgment of God.   Those who do so are expecting sweet when all their lives were given over to vile appetites.   Sweet wouldn't even taste good to them any more.

  • @quest4god@revelife - "Sweet wouldn't even taste good to them any more." ~ Yes! We need to be jealous over our taste buds and our appetites. As soon as we begin to eat and drink elsewhere (even entertaining a single thought!), we can lapse and lose that sanctified taste for true sweetness, and before we know it, we end up abandoning our first Love! One thing I'd add here is that this eating and drinking elsewhere often happens in our thought life, so it's critical for us to be vigilant and take every thought captive against the wiles and schemes of the devil.

  • Outstanding! God is speaking through you! As we get closer and closer to His return, these words are needed evermore!

    Scripture is never harsh, it just cuts to the heart! Well done!

  • I am using my slow Tablet--so shorter than usual.

    I continue to be amazed at God's love for sinners, His mercy for wicked old men, His generous provision, and limited grace. I am in awe of Him, and have to start off every morning with an apology to Him. On my best day of living with Christ, it would be no less true, that if I somehow died without Christ, I would be in hell.
    Loved your post!!

  • @Biblerapture - "Scripture is never harsh, it just cuts to the heart!" – Yes! It's true refreshment to the heart hungering and thirsting for righteousness! My current grief and urgency is for all the young people who wasting their lives running in vain after the bitter and missing out on the sweet.

  • @ANVRSADDAY - It would be a tragic day if we didn't remember God's manifold mercies, abounding grace, and amazing love for sinners like us, for apart from Christ each of us would be eternally condemned and headed for everlasting fire and utter darkness forever. God forbid we receive His grace in vain.
