Steve Saint: "Let's give everything. No holds barred. Nothing held back."
Steve Saint is the son of Nate Saint, one of five missionaries who were martyred in Ecuador in 1956. You may or may not have heard that Steve Saint was seriously injured in a test flight last week. I thought his testimony was a fitting follow-up to my Father's Day post, To take whatever thy Father's pleasure | "May adversities uninterrupted be my lot" ~ Edward Griffin...
"Let's give everything. No holds barred. Nothing held back."
Luke 9:51 And it came to pass, when the time was come that he [Jesus] should be received up, he stedfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem...
And it came to pass, that, as they went in the way, a certain man said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest. 58 And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head. 59 And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father. 60 Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God. 61 And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house. 62 And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.
Is your face steadfastly set toward Jerusalem, or are you looking back?
Are you giving everything, or are you holding back?"Those who begin with the work of God must resolve to go on with it, or they will make nothing of it. Looking back inclines to drawing back, and drawing back is to perdition. Those are not fit for heaven who, having set their faces heavenward, face about. But he, and he only, that endures to the end, shall be saved."– Matthew Henry's Complete Commentary on Luke 9

Hi Karen,
I remember those missionaries and read some book about them after I was born again. Their wives sere also great Christian missionaries. None of them held anything back.

I love that quote. What an awesome legacy those missionaries left--and their families? Oh, their families are still leaving legacies. If we all lived like that, man wouldn't the Kingdom grow quickly?
Steve Saint is inspiring and the real deal. I'm praying.
@ANVRSADDAY - In the past few years, I've been reading a quite a bit of Christian biography, but that's one I've not yet read ("Shadow of the Almighty" by Elisabeth Elliott). And yes! The story of their wives was amazing!
@stephensmustang - Yes! That quote really grabbed me! Isn't it precious to see the legacy passed along? That's my prayer for my children. Too often we are distracted by the cares of this life, and we slip into the position of Israel in Haggai 1. May God give us grace to consider our ways!
(As way of update, Steve Saint came through the surgery well, he no longer needs the neck brace and is scheduled to enter an in-patient rehab facility this coming week.)
Yes..leaving a legacy. I once did Sunday school 'theme' lessons for adults "Leave shoes worth filling". I still think of that.
Thanks for updating me on Steve. I'm thanking Abba for the good news.
On a different note, I was always impressed, moved and inspired by the men who died--but their wives were the ones who really spoke to my heart. They truly had Abba's love in their hearts too. Elisabeth was such a Godly women who touched people's lives for God not only through her missionary actions, but her books. I love true life stories like these.
