  • Good Afternoon, Karen

Again a great Trieste on the Son and Duty to Him. Idols. I guess mine are Starbucks, Hawaii, and Success.

I love Jesus--since I was born again on Feb. 13, 1965. My performance is still trying to catch up to who I am in Christ.

  • @ANVRSADDAY - Hi Frank,

I had to think to decipher Trieste - and then figured you meant treatise. ;)

I was considering what you said there about the Son and Duty to Him, and came across a Spurgeon sermon entitled, "Joy, a Duty." That pretty much says it: Joy is the Christian's duty!

From Spurgeon: "Come, brothers and sisters, I am inviting you now to no distasteful duty when, in the name of my Master, I say to you, as Paul said to the Philippians under the teaching of the Holy Spirit, 'Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.'"

Our performance is always trying to catch up to our position in Christ. Sanctification is a life-long process, but so long as we're here, by the Spirit of God at work in us, we're to continue to make every effort.

Happy 47th spiritual birthday! Hebrews 12:1-2.

  • @naphtali_deer - Good morning, Karen. My spelling is not great, but Spell Check helps. lol

I guess Duty to Jesus should be joyful.  He did not seem to suggest that it would always be fun like telling Peter he would die on  a cross. I am in some kind of wonderment that my life has been so easy, other than the normal stuff.

My wife loves Spurgeon, but I don't even know what he is talking about the complicated way her writes. lol. She explains it to me.

I think we focus on our failures a lot--just guessing. I Assume that is OK if we are dealing with being better Christians.  I don't know quite how it works. When I  was born again I was instantly delivered from alcoholism and cursing.  However, i had to sweat bullets to quit smoking and purify my mind from porn--that took about 20 years.  Beats me--sometimes God gives me a quick fix and at other times seems to make me do it myself.

Anyway, Phil 1:6 says He has assumed responsibility for shaping up this old rooster so I can meet Jesus. Confusing again--I am washed in the Blood, but still have to shape up.

    frank.

Thank God. He can make men and women in middle life sing again with a joy that has been chastened by a memory of their past failures. ~ Alan Redpath
