As the Visible Disappoints
"True believers sometimes find it hard to reconcile God's promises and his providences, when they seem to disagree."
~ Matthew Henry (Matthew Henry's Complete Commentary on Genesis 15)As the Visible Disappoints
Hebrews 11:27b ... for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.Ephesians 6:14a Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth...
Romans 4:20 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God
As the visible disappoints
With His truth gird up your loins
Turn from the seen, look beyond
Look away, look to your God
His providences may seem stern
But all His promises are firmEvery sheep called by His name
Hope does not put us to shame
God's love into our hearts poured out
Give Him the glory, do not doubtGod's promises to sons of men
In Christ they are yea and AmenEternal inheritance secured
By His Holy Spirit reassuredAnchor holding within the veil
Lamb's sprinkled blood will never failAs the visible disappoints
With His truth gird up your loins
Turn from the seen, look beyond
Look away, look to your God
His providences may seem stern
But all His promises are firmEvery sheep called by His name
Hope does not put us to shame
God's love into our hearts poured out
Give Him the glory, do not doubt
To our ears only dissonance
Above fleshly, terrestrial senseA harmony yet unheard
God's wisdom undiscernedHis mysteries still sealed
Glory yet to be revealedAs the visible disappoints
With His truth gird up your loins
Turn from the seen, look beyond
Look away, look to your God
His providences may seem stern
But all His promises are firmEvery sheep called by His name
Hope does not put us to shame
God's love into our hearts poured out
Give Him the glory, do not doubtNight will breathe its final gasp
Faith will become sight at lastGod's counsels all brightly displayed
At the dawn of glorious DayDisappointments once so grim
Transformed to praise unto Him
As the visible disappoints
With His truth gird up your loins
Turn from the seen, look beyond
Look away, look to your God
His providences may seem stern
But all His promises are firmEvery sheep called by His name
Hope does not put us to shame
God's love into our hearts poured out
Give Him the glory, do not doubtAround Christ Jesus, the Lamb slain
This will be our fervent refrain:"You neither slumbered nor slept
All Your promises You kept,From the first to the last,
Through icy winter's blast"As the visible disappoints
With His truth gird up your loins
Turn from the seen, look beyond
Look away, look to your God
His providences may seem stern
But all His promises are firmEvery sheep called by His name
Hope does not put us to shame
God's love into our hearts poured out
Give Him the glory, do not doubtRomans 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: 2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; 4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope: 5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
II Corinthians 1:20: For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.
