  • O Jerusalem! (Every soul which will not hear that prophet) | Acts 3:19-26

Matthew 23:37  O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

Acts 3:19  Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; 20  And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you: 21  Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began. 22  For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. 23  And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people. 24  Yea, and all the prophets from Samuel and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have likewise foretold of these days. 25  Ye are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed. 26  Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities.

O Jerusalem! (Every soul which will not hear that prophet)

O, leprous soul, if you would go to The Prophet
If only you had ears to hear Jesus of Nazareth

Humble yourself, wash now and be clean in the Jordan
Foolishness to the world is God's power of salvation

Broken and bruised, you seek healing and restoration
But you are lost, confused, having a fleshly expectation

In vain you wandered about, fruitlessly you have sought
But have not come to eat the true bread that can't be bought

Why do you spend your wages on what cannot satisfy?
Why return again to broken cisterns that always run dry?

Erecting idols, bowing to Baal, finding no sanctuary
Making a nominal profession, but blinded to Christ's glory

Though you have heard of Jehovah, have you really seen?
Are you veiled by the prince of this world, wholly deceived?

No surety in arm of man, no anchor here below
By every wind of doctrine, you are tossed to and fro

Will you despise and reject your sure salvation:
The spotless Lamb for men's iniquities was slain

Christ crucified: God's hidden wisdom in a mystery
Take heed, or you too will crucify the Lord of glory

A tender plant, no form, in Him nothing comely
To the eye of flesh, wholly undesirable, no beauty

All who tarry, all who remain content with worldly toys
All which do not hear Him, every soul shall be destroyed

Will you stumble, reject the cornerstone precious
So you might consume it upon your fleshly lusts?

In all the world, for all your wants and yearnings
Wherever you search, you will find no fullness

The ass knows its crib, the ox its owner,
O, come quickly, reason and consider

All you prodigals, leave behind your husks
Run to Him who has unsearchable riches

Everlasting delight and refreshment only found
As you repent and turn, ascend to higher ground

Friends, I bring you not gold nor silver of this world
I preach to you heavenly treasure, the undying Pearl

Give ear, seek no more to walk like all the nations
O Jerusalem, trust in Christ, come under His wings

Remember Lot's wife, and flee the wrath to come
Do not look back, set your affections on God's Son

Though you have turned your back on the Lord's grace
Pray He might be gracious and turn you to seek His face

All who trust in Him are never put to shame
Look to Christ, that your face might radiate

In every storm, living water pours to gladden
Sure deliverance to your desired haven

In the wilderness, grace; in the desert, streams
A table of fat things provided for your lean

Come and feast, taste and see God's goodness
Come under His shadow, make Him your refuge

  • This is like the comparisons or contrasts that God uses in His word...as in Psalm 1.   So many ways of seeing the advantage of Life in Christ!   All else is worthless dung.

  • @quest4god@revelife - I wasn't really thinking of Psalm 1 as I wrote this, but that's exactly it! All else IS worthless dung! If we aren't eating and drinking of Christ, we are wholly impoverished! Those who are Christ's sheep will continue to abide in Him and let His words abide in us – like that tree planted by streams of water. (Though, yes, we will have those times when we "stray," but soon enough God's persevering grace will bring us to our senses, draw us back to the sanctuary, show us our foolishness, grant us repentance & draw us back into fellowship w/ Him once more). Along w/ Peter we have learned that Christ alone has the words of eternal life. "Lord, to whom shall we go?"

  • I think many denominations believe that Jesus will one day rule from some kind of new Jerusalem. I don't know, but inn the mean time, He should be our only King.

  • @ANVRSADDAY - "He should be our only King." - Amen, Frank!

There will be a New Jerusalem. The various denominations differ as to how they believe that will all unfold, but Jesus is and always been and always will be King, and we need to treat Him like that in this life.

Thank God. He can make men and women in middle life sing again with a joy that has been chastened by a memory of their past failures. ~ Alan Redpath
