  • Good Afternoon Karen from the sanctuary of Starbucs. Yes, with God, every day can be a new day for us--not just because the calendar advances another 24 hours, but how we respond to the daily offerrings from God's table of blessings.  I love 1 John  a great deal, but it is more a book of conviction than assurance. My Baptist teachers called it the book of Assurance. lol Not me. Howeve, God is the God of fresh starts with hundreds of second chances.

    Nicely written, Karen

  • @ANVRSADDAY - I really love how you put this:

Yes, with God, every day can be a new day for
us--not just because the calendar advances another 24 hours, but how we
respond to the daily offerrings from God's table of blessings.

God is definitely continuing to set that table of blessings before us ~ Psalm 23. One verse He's continued to impress on me is from Luke 15, the father's words to the older son: "All that I have is yours." The question for me and for all Christians is given that our heavenly Father is saying to us, "All that I have is yours," what are we doing with all He given to us?

I know we've discussed I John before; it  is a tough book, but through the conviction we get a realistic assessment of ourselves, and from that, we can gain a sense of assurance.

God is the God of fresh starts with hundreds of second chances.

Amen to that! I certainly needed that reminder again in the past couple days.  II Timothy 2:1.

  • 1 John is very challenging... "The man who says, 'I know him,' but does not obey what he commands is a liar... Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did." Wow, like a punch to my self-righteous gut. In your poem, the repetition of "Today's a new day" really hammers home the message. Very nice.

  • @A_Piano_Tuner - Thanks, Don. Apologies for not responding to your comments sooner. Been on a bit of a break/vacation.

I so agree w/ you about First John. Wow, like a punch to my self-righteous gut. - Perfect way of putting it! Apart from Him we can do NOTHING!
