If You were but a man ~ the God that answereth by fire
~ Based on Psalms 73 & 84 ~
Psalm 84:2
... my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God.If You were but a man
How could You settle my slipping steps?
How could You give my weary soul rest?
But You are not a man
You are my strength
my portion, my God
forever
the great I AMIf You were but a man
How could You this idolater keep humbling?
How could You keep my feet from stumbling?
But You are not a man
You are my strength
my portion, my God
forever
the great I AMIf You were but a man
How could You place this anxious swallow in the nest?
How could You give this wretch Your righteousness?
But You are not a man
You are my strength
my portion, my God
forever
the great I AMIf You were but a man
How could You guard this one who seeks to depart?
How could You console my downcast, grieving heart?
But You are not a man
You are my strength
my portion, my God
forever
the great I AMIf You were but a man
How could You bring this sparrow to Your courts?
How could You draw me with everlasting cords?
But You are not a man
You are my strength
my portion, my God
forever
the great I AMIf You were but a man
How could You speak comfort to my vexed and darkened mind?
How could You make Your face shine, be gracious and so kind?
But You are not a man
You are my strength
my portion, my God
forever
the great I AMIf You were but a man
How could You hold my right hand that lets go?
How could You melt me, bring the arrogant low?
But You are not a man
You are my strength
my portion, my God
forever
the great I AMIf You were but a man
How could You persevere with the brutish?
How could You impart wisdom to the foolish?
But You are not a man
You are my strength
my portion, my God
forever
the great I AMIf You were but a man
How could You be strength for the weak?
How could You my prodigal soul to seek?
But You are not a man
You are my strength
my portion, my God
forever
the great I AMIf You were but a man
How could You my hardened heart break?
How could You turn my desert to fresh lake?
But You are not a man
You are my strength
my portion, my God
forever
the great I AMIf You were but a man
How could You persist in loving this wayward tart?
How could You answer with fire in my heart?
But You are not a man
You are my strength
my portion, my God
forever
the great I AMIf You were but a man
How could You love such an ignorant beast?
How could You set before me the Lamb's feast?
But You are not a man
You are my strength
my portion, my God
forever
the great I AMIf You were but a man
How could You change my spots and draw me near?
How could You count and wipe away my every tear?
But You are not a man
You are my strength
my portion, my God
forever
the great I AMIf You were but a man
How could You make my sluggish soul revive?
How could You make this barren woman thrive?
But You are not a man
You are my strength
my portion, my God
forever
the great I AMIf You were but a man
How could You never fail or never tire
You are the living God
You are not a man, You answer by fire
You are my strength
my portion, my God
forever
the great I AMIf You were but a man
How could You be worthy of all praise
But You are not a man
In You I trust, my thanks to You I raise
You are my strength
my portion, my God
forever
the great I AMI Kings 18:24: And call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the LORD: and the God that answereth by fire, let him be God.

Good Evening, Karen. I think I liked the last one best, 'If You were but a man, How could You be worthy of all praise......'
Blessings

How awesomely inspiring and encouraging! This is great!!!
@ANVRSADDAY - Amen, Frank. Christ alone is worthy! Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!
@Like_A_Tigah - Thank you. I hope it encourages you to keep seeking the Lord so He might reveal Himself to you in a very real way, e.g.- Romans 8:16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God... Luke 11:1-13, Ephesians 3:14-19, Psalm 63: to know the satisfaction Christ alone can bring to the thirsty soul.
