iron struck ~ fellowship & Joy's face | letter 107 on assurance & fighting for joy
Proverbs 27:17: Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.
iron struck
my face I turned awayinwardly focused
on self I sharpened my gazemy heart injured and pained
a partition my flesh did raisemy narcissistic measures
buried me here in this lonely gravedeath struck
I must now turn awayno life or freedom did I attain
but only a joyless thirsty heavinessangel of light deceived, bewitched
led me down to this gloomy emptinessonly in rising and turning and facing the iron
will my face be lightened, radiant and blessedChrist was struck
He did not turn His face awaylooked to joy, humbled Himself
His life, His all, He willingly gaveKing of glory became incarnate
the last Adam suffered disgracefor all were enemies, in sin conceived
sheep gone astray of the first Adam's fallen raceiron struck
the spotless Lamb as on the cross He silent layliving God went down to the grave
on the third day He was from death raisedHis precious blood reconciled us both
the partition of hostility He has razedborn of one Spirit, drank of the same Rock
wretched man am I to have turned my face awayWord strike
quicken, let me no longer delaysharpened Sword, pierce and divide
deliver me from this devilish, grievous cageLiving Water refresh and revive
Love flow into this arid desert placemelt my rigid stony heart
Holy Fire, consume and blazeGrace strike
set my feet in the narrow wayturn my face to the sharpening iron
lead me in the everlasting waythe sharpening iron from which I turned my face away
is loving sustenance from God's hand divinely ordainedfor as I rise and turn and face that sharpening iron
I see You, Jesus, Your countenance, Your shining and lovely face ~ Joy's face

"only in rising and turning and facing the iron
will my face be lightened, radiant and blessed"
How fitting for me right now! Thanks!
I took from this a new appreciation of Christ's suffering for us and setting the example for living.
I also took away a personal feeling--I believe the major disappoints in my life and the sometimes severe health issues that I face, was the iron used by God so sharpen me up a bit. Obviously, God is not done with me yet.
Blessings, Karen

@quest4god@revelife - You're welcome, Norm. I'll be praying the Lord might strengthen you to face the iron so you might know that lightening, radiance and blessing!
@ANVRSADDAY - Thanks, Frank. I love your comment. As the Holy Spirit helps us to look rightly at the person of Christ and His work, then it should affect us personally. And yes, God will continue to send that iron for our sharpening - but that's all for our good. For whom the Lord loves, He chastens.
