  • I love this verse!

II Timothy 2:19  But God's firm foundation stands, bearing this seal: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of the Lord depart from iniquity.”

Yes, it's high time we got off the fence and showed our reverence for God, our Father.  Those distractions (sins, for whatever is not of faith is sin) are so tiresome!  Afterward, we always feel like *crap* and have such deep regrets.   It's not like it used to be before we were His children and could not help returning to the manure pile for more of the same.

  • @quest4god@revelife - I love that verse also. We can't say we're God's if we're not striving to be holy. Our Father is holy. The Lamb is holy. His Spirit is holy. Holy! Holy! Holy! Anyone who says holiness doesn't matter in the life of a Christian is being deceived. And, as John said, whoever is born of God does not commit sin and he who commits sin is of the devil.

Afterward, we always feel like *crap* and have such deep regrets. It's not like it used to be before we were His children and could not help returning to the manure pile for more of the same.

Yes! And even during...We are miserable more quickly b/c we've tasted and seen He is good, we see our souls are not being filled and yet we're entrapped. It's all very devious. I've been reflecting on this latest experience quite a lot and seeing what I could have done differently. We begin to react rather than respond (ML-J's distinction there) and that's when we go wrong. We forget about the goodness and sovereignty of God and we have a pity party but we're not really joyful in that at all.

It frightens me as I reflected on what happened to me a few days ago, b/c I know I ought to know better. I've experienced Christ's joy and I have a fairly good rooting in doctrine and yet...there I was! It makes me grieve for those people who don't go back to God, b/c they don't know to go back to Him and they continue in the *crap.* My call is: "Leave the crap for the living waters. There's no comparison! May the Spirit give you ears to hear and a thirst for Him alone!" (Give me ears to hear and a thirst for You alone!)

  • @naphtali_deer - My question is: Why do we EVER leave God for the things that we formerly clung to when we have already found Someone so much more satisfying and beautiful?  It has to be temporary insanity!

Our Father's love will win us completely.  It must be so!  Oh to be free from temptation for all time and eternity!  I want to seek Him only.  He is my (our) great Treasure!

  • @quest4god@revelife - It's a temporary blindness. Peter proclaimed Jesus was the Christ and yet next thing we know is that he is telling Jesus not to go to Jerusalem and then denying Christ. That's a reminder that all of us are prone to that and yet we have the promise of Christ's restoration so we might feed the sheep, ever-mindful we are sheep who are prone to wander. God is good. His love endures forever.

Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, Prone to leave the God I love.
Here's my heart, O take and seal it. Seal it for Thy courts above.

If our hearts weren't sealed, we would be without hope.

About me...

Christian hedonist in training. Pressing on to know more and more of the joy of the LORD. Pleading with God to rend the heavens and revive and refresh my own soul, as well as His Church, to His praise, honor and glory.

Thank God. He can make men and women in middle life sing again with a joy that has been chastened by a memory of their past failures. ~ Alan Redpath
