  • "You can have me" (Sidewalk Prophets) (Does He have you?)

Last night my husband and I went to The Rock and Worship Roadshow. I wasn't familiar with the opening band, Sidewalk Prophets. I really, really liked their song "You Can Have Me." The lyrics complement many of my recent posts challenging us to follow and serve wherever God is leading us (please see the links at the bottom of this post). The video starts off a little slow, but please keep watching and listening...and more important than listening to the song, please be listening for God's voice. May He open our ears to hear His voice and circumcise our hearts to respond in obedience. I Samuel 3.

    "You Can Have Me"

If You’re all You claim to be
    Then I’m not losing anything
So I will crawl upon my knees
Just to know the joy of suffering
I will love You enough to let go

Lord, I give you my life
    I give you my life

    When did love become unmoving?
    When did love become unconsuming?
Forgetting what the world has told me
Father of love, You can have me, You can have me

I want to be where You are
    I’m running into Your arms
And I will never look back
So Jesus, here is my heart

    When did love become unmoving?
    When did love become unconsuming?
Forgetting what the world has told me
Father of love, You can have me, You can have me

    When did love become unmoving?
    When did love become unconsuming?
Forgetting what the world has told me
Father of love, You can have me
My Father, my love, You can have me

    * * *

Has God's love in Jesus Christ become unmoving?
Has God's love in Jesus Christ becoming unconsuming?

    What moves you?
    What consumes you?

Is God the Father really your love?
Is Jesus really your first Love?

Can you say with the apostle Paul:

II Corinthians 5:13  For if we are beside ourselves, it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you. 14  For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; 15  and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised.

16  From now on, therefore, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we once regarded Christ according to the flesh, we regard him thus no longer. 17  Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

Can you truly say you are a new creation if you continue to live for yourself?
Can you truly say God the Father is your love if you continue to live for yourself?

    Does the Father have you?
    Does Christ's love constrain you?

I've heard people say they have Jesus, but the real question is this:
     does Jesus have you?

Thank God. He can make men and women in middle life sing again with a joy that has been chastened by a memory of their past failures. ~ Alan Redpath
