  • Letter 12 on assurance and fighting for joy: The Half Has Never Yet Been Told

    My friend,

    After I wrote my letter to you this morning reminding you that the Lord is at hand, I remembered Frances Havergal's wonderful hymn. I invite you to read and reflect upon it and sing it, so you might rest in the Lord and His great, sure and steadfast love for you in Jesus Christ today.

    Notice the last stanza:

    O Savior, precious Savior mine!
    What will Thy presence be,
    If such a life of joy can crown
    Our walk on earth with Thee?

    Did not Miss Havergal taste of those pleasures forevermore He has for all of His children! O that we might continue to eat and drink of Him so we too might taste and see that He is good and be filled with His Spirit and with His joy!

    May He rejoice your soul today as only He can do!

    ~Karen

    The Half Has Never Yet Been Told
    (Frances Havergal, 1878)

    I know I love Thee better, Lord
    Than any earthly joy:
    For Thou hast given me the peace
    Which nothing can destroy.

    The half has never yet been told,
    Of love so full and free;
    The half has never yet been told,
    The blood, it cleanseth me

    I know that Thou art nearer stilll
    Than any earthly throng;
    And sweeter is the thought of Thee
    Than any lovely song.

    Thou hast put gladness in my heart,
    Then may I well be glad;
    Without the secret of Thy love,
    I could not but be sad.

    O Savior, precious Savior mine!
    What will Thy presence be,
    If such a life of joy can crown
    Our walk on earth with Thee?

  • Those pleasures forevermore...they bring us gladness and joy - everlasting joy:

    Therefore the redeemed of the Lord shall return
    And come with singing unto Zion,
    And everlasting joy shall be upon their head.

    Therefore the redeemed of the Lord shall return
    And come with singing unto Zion,
    And everlasting joy shall be upon their head.

    They shall obtain gladness and joy,
    And sorrow and mourning shall flee away.

    Therefore the redeemed of the Lord shall return
    And come with singing unto Zion,
    And everlasting joy shall be upon their head

    Are you already beginning to sing?

Thank God. He can make men and women in middle life sing again with a joy that has been chastened by a memory of their past failures. ~ Alan Redpath
