Shall your brethren go to war, and shall ye sit here? (a call to prayer)
Just over a week ago, I'd posted a call to prayer here on behalf of our brothers and sisters in Christ, particularly those who have ministered to us and/or are in ministry of one sort or another. (I use the term ministry quite broadly here since we are all ministers.)
Earlier this morning I posted Charles Spurgeon's "Morning and Evening" devotional for today on Romans 8:28 here.
After looking at Spurgeon's morning devotional, I looked at today's evening devotional. It's based on Numbers 32:6:
Shall your brethren go to war, and shall ye sit here?We are all in a nonstop spiritual battle against the devil and the kingdom of darkness. Today there are many of our brothers and sisters who are wounded weak and weary in the battle. As members of the Body of Christ, we are each called to uphold and support one another in the battle.
After I read that verse from Numbers 32, I turned to the first chapter of Judges and read (NKJV):
So Judah said to Simeon his brother, “Come up with me to my allotted territory, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I will likewise go with you to your allotted territory.”Will you let your brothers and sisters go to war while you just sit? Will you not go up today with a brother and sister to his or her allotted territory and fight alongside him or her?
Therefore, as the Lord leads you, I'm asking you to:
- Please pray and ask God to bring someone to mind who may be in need of encouragement today. This can be someone in an official ministry capacity, e.g.-a pastor, elder, deacon, music minister, Sunday school teacher, or a close friend or relative or someone on Xanga/Revelife – whoever.
- Please take time to pray for the person God brings to mind. In Ephesians 6, after he's written about the whole armor of God, Paul tells us we are to be praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints. That's what I'm asking you to do today. Kneel down and pray.
- Then call, message, or e-mail that person. I would encourage you to share in a time of prayer with the person and/or send them a written prayer or Scripture to encourage them.
- As God leads you to do so, you may also leave an encouraging comment here for God's ministers to read, e.g.-a prayer, a Scripture, a song or hymn.
And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
–Hebrews 10:24-25So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.
–Galatians 6:2
Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. 5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
–Philippians 4:5-8This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this, that someone lays down his life for his friends.
–John 15:12-13

I will pray for the pastor in our church of membership. He does need to be encouraged. I need to encourage him. Why? I just don't like him. He sends us an emailed message once a week. I will respond to it with works of encouragement.
Blessings,
frank
Will pray.
This was a good reminder - to do our part...

@FRANK@revelife - Frank, thank you once again for your "frankness"! I know your pastor will be blessed.
Karen
@Christenstein - Thank you!
@pamilvr - Frank, Thanks. Yes, we need to continue to uphold one another in prayer, otherwise the Body won't function as God intends.
Thanks also for including the info. here about how to get Spurgeon's devotionals by e-mail.

Hi Karen, I did send him an encouraging email message. I have not heard back. lol
@ANVRSADDAY - That's when we need to trust what we've done to God. Often we want feedback from men, but all we need to hear from Christ is, "Well done, good and faithful servant." God sees what we do, regardless of whatever results we may get/not get or whatever feedback we may get/not get from others. (This is hard for me, for sure. I like to get feedback and see results!)
