  • Naphtali News: Update

    What's been going on

    Getaway on the Mississippi

We had "earned" a free hotel night to use from the nights we stayed in Vail last summer,
so Paul and I ended up getting a free two-room suite complete with hot tub
(I'm a big fan of hot tubs, but, no, I didn't turn into a raisin!)

and a view of the Mississippi.

Sunday morning we watched the sun come up over the river.
The temperature that morning was well below zero,
so that's steam you see coming up off the river.

    Welcoming family!?

In addition to having all the family home for the holidays
(I can't say for Christmas since we weren't all together right on Christmas Day),
we had a special guest join us...

    For those longtime readers,
if you remember, last December we had
another possum join us as well.

    Celebrating our 26th Anniversary

with a steak dinner and free chocolate cake for dessert!
    Soli Deo gloria!

    Walking outside with my ipod

and listening to my new CD,
Jeremy Camp's "Speaking Louder than Before."

Yes, I did write outside--even in the icy weather
    here in Wisconsin!

These things are great; they help grip the ice, so you're less likely to fall.

    What lies ahead, Lord willing

    David Crowder Band concert

    in less than a week
    (but who's counting?)

    Surgery for my "baby"

my New King James Bible, that is.

I've so imprinted onto this Bible.
I've written all sorts of notes and cross references in it
(it has no cross references of its own),
as well as notations from other books/authors.

From my rough calculations, I think I've been using it for over 10 years now,

so it's gotten some pretty heavy duty use.
I'm now gearing up to take it into the book bindery to have it rebound.

    Blogging

I've got a lot of ideas swirling.
I'm not sure if/when these will all get posted...

    Something Old

"Things To Look for in a Church"
(maybe some day I'll finish this series!)

    and

    Something New

    Joy
(I have at least about ten posts I'd like to do, about four of which are semifinished)
[edited 10.30.09 - Please note: I began a series on Assurance & Fighting for Joy on 10.14.09]

    Friendship and fear

    and

    Continuing on with

    True and false religion

(for the next several Sundays I am planning to continue posting more about
about true and false religion using excerpts from Martyn Lloyd-Jones)

God's blessings to you in the coming year
as we press on together to know Him and make Him known,

    Karen

  • Karen - congrats with your 26th anniversary!  Sounds like  a GREAT way to spend it!   Looking forward to reading more of your posts in the year of our Lord 2009!

  • In honor of your 26th wedding anniversary. . . . ("Rachmaninoff's 18th Variation on a Theme of Pagannini" playing).

  • @nicolevw -Nicole, Thank you. As far as I'm concerned anytime there's steak and/or chocolate involved, that's a good thing.

@WLCALUM -Thanks for the musical gift. I do like classical music but I'm not a big classical music aficionado (even though we now have two professional musicians in our family!), so I had to track it down to take a listen. I really enjoyed the piece.

About me...

Christian hedonist in training. Pressing on to know more and more of the joy of the LORD. Pleading with God to rend the heavens and revive and refresh my own soul, as well as His Church, to His praise, honor and glory.

Thank God. He can make men and women in middle life sing again with a joy that has been chastened by a memory of their past failures. ~ Alan Redpath
