  • For Your Ears/Election 2008: Don't forget the One on Whose shoulders the government rests

With the U.S. election just behind us and Advent approaching, I'd highly recommend your listening to Martyn Lloyd-Jones' podcast message for this week, The Government is on His Shoulders, part 1 (on Isaiah 9:6-7).

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this. Isaiah 9:6-7

…behind all governments in all countries today, there is this One upon whose shoulder the government of the universe ultimately rests. And He is there seated at the right hand of God waiting until His enemies shall be made His footstool. He lives! He reigns! This is the great proclamation. That there is a government behind all governments working out the ultimate purpose of God to head up all things. Not only human, but all things. Heaven and earth…To head them all up again in Him. The government is laid upon His shoulder.

    Amen!
