  • Naphtali News: Needing Grace to Swim with the Lamb

    My friend Lori asked if we'd found a new church home. Here's my response...

    On the edge
    Dipping in a toe
    Pulling it out

    Uncertainty
    Shrinking back
    Walking by sight

    My mind and heart
    Back on the edge
    Doubting...Contemplating...

    Should I
    or shouldn't I?
    Deliberating...Debilitating...

    The Spirit cuts
    His word
    into my mind and heart

    "Take your feet
    Dip your toe back in
    Trust Me"

    Back on the edge
    Dipping my toe back in
    Ah, different this time

    Freedom
    Welcome
    Peace

    Now both feet go in
    Yes, the water's fine
    Life-giving and sweet

    No, wait,
    the water's become a bit murky
    I retreat to shore

    My feet planted
    Back on the edge
    Out of the water

    My mind and heart
    Back on the edge
    Doubting...Contemplating...

    Should I
    or shouldn't I?
    Deliberating...Seeking...

    "Walk by faith
    Go back
    Put your feet back in"

    Both feet step warily
    Into the water
    Yes, the water is fine

    Truth
    Bread
    Life

    Wading in a bit further
    calf-deep
    But still not diving under

    My mind and heart
    Back on the edge
    Contemplating...Seeking...

    Might there be
    another swimming hole
    awaiting my toe?

    Should I
    or shouldn't I?
    Deliberating...Inquiring...

    Wading by faith
    in this swimming hole
    for now

    Needing His grace
    to follow and swim
    wherever the Lamb is swimming

    Seeking His grace
    to plunge in and swim
    wherever the Lamb is swimming

    Seeking Your mind
    to follow You and swim
    wherever You are swimming

    Renew my mind
    Circumcise my heart
    Transform my will

    To follow You
    Not to go back to the edge
    But to jump in by faith and swim wherever You are

    I want to be where You are
    Not my will
    but Yours, Lord

    By the working
    of Your mighty power
    I'll dive in and swim with You
