  • "the aim in life is God's, not mine" (Oswald Chambers)

I remembered something from Oswald Chambers I wanted to pass along to a friend, but after I dug it out I knew I wanted to post it publicly since this dovetails so well with my posts the last two days on holy ambition and holy desire.

I have to learn that the aim in life is God's, not mine. God is using me from His great personal standpoint, and all He asks of me is that I trust Him, and never say—Lord, this gives me such a heart-ache. To talk in that way makes me a clog. When I stop telling God what I want, He can catch me up for what He wants without  let or hindrance. He can crumple me up or exalt me, He can do anything He chooses,. He simply asks me ot have implicit faith in Himself and in His goodness. Self-pity is of the devil, if I go off on that line I cannot be used by God for His purpose in the world. I have a "world within the world" in which I live, and God will never be able to get me outside it because I am afraid of being frost-bitten.

–excerpt from November 10 entry in "My Utmost for His Highest"
Is the aim in your life yours or is it God's?

  • i sure needed this reminder today. thanks dear. =)

  • Karen - many years ago God used 'My Utmost for His Highest' for a season in drawing me unto Him.  A powerful, powerful devotional!  Thanks for the reminder ... Be blessed IN Christ Jesus and His love!  Bernie

  • It is His Aim!
I am enfolded in His Love!

  • @YouTOme - Julie, Oh, I definitely needed it later in the afternoon! We need it every day, don't we? God is good!

  • @bwebbjr - Bernie, Don't you have wonderful memories of sitting w/ books like this? Can't you sometimes remember exactly where you were and what was happening and what you were thinking & feeling as you read certain words? Have you read Chambers' biography, "Abandoned to God"? I would highly recommend it!

    Blessings in Christ, Karen

  • @bronze_for_gold - It is His Aim! I am enfolded in His Love!

Lynda, How wonderful and glorious! Amen.

  • @naphtali_deer - For me, the year I read it on weekdays I would arrive at work about 30 minutes ahead of schedule and park under the trees, read the day's devotional with highlighter in hand and consider ... so yes, I remember.  I have not read 'Abandoned to God' but have downloaded the audiobook and hopefully will get the opp to listen to this summer.  thanks for the recommendation!!!

  • @bwebbjr - Bernie, Thank you for sharing that. It is so wonderful. I love to hear how God works in each one of us in unique ways. God always meets us when we make that time to abide in Him.

I had also downloaded the audiobook and that's why I ended up getting the actual book. I couldn't not get it. I remember listening to it and scribbling down notes and it was so, so applicable to things I was thinking about at the time. Since reading it, I've loaned it now to 2 friends (still don't have it back yet - LOL). Do you read a lot of Christian biography?

May God bless you as you continue to follow hard after Him,
    Karen
